NLP - The Secrets of Neuro-Linguistic Programming No comments yet

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is a method of personal transformation or persuasion that works directly with the subconscious mind to overcome limiting beliefs and behaviors and replace them with positive alternatives.

It is often combined with hypnosis to get the best results and this combination is particularly effective with addictions. Many people have found that issues they have struggled with for years have been resolved in a single session of NLP.

Before we get into just what NLP is and how it can have a profound impact on your life and the lives of those around you, you have to check out this short video that shows a dramatic example of the power of NLP. (Warning — it’s kind of shocking, but I think you’ll get the point once you see it.) Click here to watch the movie.

How to Influence Others with NLP

Because NLP uses advanced communications techniques that can help you read someone like a book on one hand and develop close rapport with them on the other, it is a modality that can significantly improve the outcomes of hypnosis.

In other words, hypnotists or hypnotherapists who wish to improve their ability to both induce hypnosis and benefit their subjects are advised to incorporate neuro-linguistic programming strategies into their practice.

NLP techniques can be used to generate trust in a subject so they will be open to the induction process and subsequent suggestions. The methodologies of NLP allow the subconscious mind to be more deeply engaged than if it were subjected only to the influence of hypnosis.

How Does NLP Work?

The underlying premise of neuro-linguistic programming is that our beliefs create the lives we live. In other words, if we change our beliefs we will change our lives.

Once a belief or a belief system is identified, there are various NLP techniques that can be used to remove it and replace it with beliefs that support your goals. Patterns of failure, self sabotage, over eating, addiction, money problems can all be tracked back to limiting beliefs, often developed in childhood.

They are merely strengthened by situations encountered as we age. In order to overcome any problem in life, we therefore must address our beliefs.

Famous NLP Practitioners

One of the more accomplished NLP practitioners out there maintains a site here that I suggest you take a look at. His work is truly amazing, and everyone from world-famous marketers to average “Joes” have used his material with amazing results. Click here to check out his site.

Tony Robbins, a self improvement and motivational expert, relies heavily on neuro-linguistic programming to help people overcome limiting beliefs.

He explains that our beliefs are like a table with legs. A table cannot stand without its legs and neither can a belief. When we have a belief, our subconscious mind constantly looks for reasons to support it. However, if we wish to counter a limiting belief with a positive one, we need to also give that new belief legs so that it becomes real.

For example, if you are struggling with low self esteem, you may need to install the belief “I am worthy of my own respect.” To do this you would look for four good reasons to support this statement.

Derren Brown, fast becoming one of the most famous hypnotists, illusionists, and NLP practitioners around, uses NLP in many of his TV shows, often with stunning effects.

Breaking Patterns with NLP

NLP also relies heavily on interrupting patterns. Once a new belief is installed, old patterns don’t immediately disappear. These patterns can be broken, however, by interrupting them in an unusual, often shocking way, until they do not recur.

Aversion therapy is another technique used within neuro-linquistic programming to create negative associations in the subconscious mind towards unwanted behavior.

When a hypnotherapist uses NLP techniques in conjunction with hypnosis, the effects can be spectacular. Hypnosis works by slowing the brainwaves to alpha level where the mind is more suggestible. In this state, new suggestions or beliefs can more easily be planted in the subconscious mind.

By combining the communications, rapport, and behavioral modification elements of NLP with hypnosis, life changing results can be accomplished often in a single session.
