Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is a method of personal transformation or persuasion that works directly with the subconscious mind to overcome limiting beliefs and behaviors and replace them with positive alternatives.
It is often combined with hypnosis to get the best results and this combination is particularly effective with addictions. Many people have found that issues they have struggled with for years have been resolved in a single session of NLP.
Before we get into just what NLP is and how it can have a profound impact on your life and the lives of those around you, you have to check out this short video that shows a dramatic example of the power of NLP. (Warning — it’s kind of shocking, but I think you’ll get the point once you see it.) Click here to watch the movie.
How to Influence Others with NLP
Because NLP uses advanced communications techniques that can help you read someone like a book on one hand and develop close rapport with them on the other, it is a modality that can significantly improve the outcomes of hypnosis.
In other words, hypnotists or hypnotherapists who wish to improve their ability to both induce hypnosis and benefit their subjects are advised to incorporate neuro-linguistic programming strategies into their practice.
NLP techniques can be used to generate trust in a subject so they will be open to the induction process and subsequent suggestions. The methodologies of NLP allow the subconscious mind to be more deeply engaged than if it were subjected only to the influence of hypnosis.
How Does NLP Work?
The underlying premise of neuro-linguistic programming is that our beliefs create the lives we live. In other words, if we change our beliefs we will change our lives.
Once a belief or a belief system is identified, there are various NLP techniques that can be used to remove it and replace it with beliefs that support your goals. Patterns of failure, self sabotage, over eating, addiction, money problems can all be tracked back to limiting beliefs, often developed in childhood.
They are merely strengthened by situations encountered as we age. In order to overcome any problem in life, we therefore must address our beliefs.
Famous NLP Practitioners
One of the more accomplished NLP practitioners out there maintains a site here that I suggest you take a look at. His work is truly amazing, and everyone from world-famous marketers to average “Joes” have used his material with amazing results. Click here to check out his site.
Tony Robbins, a self improvement and motivational expert, relies heavily on neuro-linguistic programming to help people overcome limiting beliefs.
He explains that our beliefs are like a table with legs. A table cannot stand without its legs and neither can a belief. When we have a belief, our subconscious mind constantly looks for reasons to support it. However, if we wish to counter a limiting belief with a positive one, we need to also give that new belief legs so that it becomes real.
For example, if you are struggling with low self esteem, you may need to install the belief “I am worthy of my own respect.” To do this you would look for four good reasons to support this statement.
Derren Brown, fast becoming one of the most famous hypnotists, illusionists, and NLP practitioners around, uses NLP in many of his TV shows, often with stunning effects.
Breaking Patterns with NLP
NLP also relies heavily on interrupting patterns. Once a new belief is installed, old patterns don’t immediately disappear. These patterns can be broken, however, by interrupting them in an unusual, often shocking way, until they do not recur.
Aversion therapy is another technique used within neuro-linquistic programming to create negative associations in the subconscious mind towards unwanted behavior.
When a hypnotherapist uses NLP techniques in conjunction with hypnosis, the effects can be spectacular. Hypnosis works by slowing the brainwaves to alpha level where the mind is more suggestible. In this state, new suggestions or beliefs can more easily be planted in the subconscious mind.
By combining the communications, rapport, and behavioral modification elements of NLP with hypnosis, life changing results can be accomplished often in a single session.
Building on some of the other material I’ve been lucky enough to be able to share with you guys, here’s a little more in-depth explanation on just how simple it can be to perform basic hypnosis on someone.
Remember, all of this material is really basically drawn from this amazing site. These are the guys who really know what they’re talking about.
Under the power of hypnosis, you can discover the key to unlocking the secrets of anyone’s mind. One of the funniest sights I have ever witnessed was a friend being hypnotized at a comedy club. The hypnotist pulled this quiet guy out of the audience, and in less than 5 minutes had him performing an Elvis routine. Think of the legend you can become, working your magic on the crowd.
Conversational Hypnosis
Not many people realize there is a way to hypnotize others without their knowledge. You might be falling under the spell…right now! When you convince someone in a conversation, without his or her awareness, [maybe even without your own] to do something you suggest, it is called conversational hypnosis.
As I mentioned above, I really encourage you to explore how powerful this process is. As you can see on this site, this stuff used to pretty much be banned among the medical community. That’s how strong it was.
Parents, teachers, bosses, are master manipulators at bending us to their will. Now you can learn the methods used to hypnotize anyone. Hypnotism techniques are easy to use, safe, and very effective to influence behavior. What if you were able to help others through the power of hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of mind that we experience naturally every day. The majority of all daily activities are controlled by our subconscious mind. While in this trance like state, the subconscious mind is open to suggestions. We have all been driving in the car, and suddenly snapped back to reality. Our minds have drifted off, while our vehicles have stayed on course. There are many mindless tasks, which we could perform in ‘our sleep’.
Here are a few necessary steps in hypnosis…
Develop Trust-
The person you wish to hypnotize must feel as if you are on their side. For example: If you were working with an insomniac, you would agree with them that going to sleep is downright impossible.
Agree to Disagree-
Plant the question in their mind that the difficulty to rest might lay in their brain. Persuade them further by agreeing that they have exhausted all solutions to their problem. Prod the individual into disagreeing with you that they will ever achieve a restful night.
Power of Hypnosis-
Subtly suggest that they will enjoy a long peaceful sleep the next time they go to bed, and guarantee the action with their agreement. Completely leave this topic, and talk with them about something unrelated. Return to the insomnia issue with the assurance their bedtime troubles are over.
Remember, I’m a total amateur at this stuff. Listen to experts like these for ways to pull this stuff off without a hitch.
Celebrities who have benefited from hypnosis-
Golf pro, Tiger Woods, finds focus in his game and blocks out distractions under hypnosis.
Jackie Kennedy Onassis found peace with tragic events in her life through hypnosis.
Mozart composed masterpiece operas while hypnotized.
Albert Einstein used trance methods to develop his brilliant ideas into theories.
The comedian, Ellen DeGeneres, used hypnosis tactics to quit smoking cigarettes.
Martha Stewart who was plagued by nightmares after she was released from jail sought the help of hypnosis.
The actor, Kevin Costner, cured his bouts with seasickness by hypnosis.
The power of hypnosis is a successful tool to use in business practices, regulating diets, and pain management. To win the battle against an unwanted habit, the subconscious mind must be re-programmed with new responses.
During the process, the subject can open their eyes anytime. They are still aware of their surroundings, and remain in control of their actions. A Hypnotist guides the person so the subconscious takes each suggestion as an actual event.
As you can see, this is powerful mojo. I really hope they don’t take this site down, because in my mind it’s the best one out there on the subject.
Thanks! And good luck learning1
Okay gang, so I promised I’d show you this quick video of just how powerful hypnosis can be when practiced the right way.
(Actually, this guy uses the techniques for EVIL, which I hope you NEVER do.)
What I want you to do is to visit this site right now before watching the video below. That way, it’ll make a lot more sense to you.
Thanks!
